Pandemic hits home: The arrival of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan
On this day five years ago, the first presumptive case of COVID-19 was detected in Saskatchewan. That single number carried with it an immense weight, as people in this province, like those throughout the rest of the country, had been anxiously tracking the global spread of the virus, wondering when it would hit home. The lone infection quickly multiplied into hundreds, and then thousands, of cases. And while it spun a common thread throughout humankind, the nature of this particular once-in-a-lifetime event forced us to endure much of it in isolation. Over the next week, the Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix will be looking back on the pandemic — its ever-present impact, how it was handled and what was learned along the way.
